Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed in the United States today. Unfortunately, the Botox industry is full of incorrect and conflicting information, making it difficult for first-timers to decide wisely.
This blog post busts a few of the most common Botox myths to help you make an informed choice.
1. Botox is permanent
Contrary to popular opinion, Botox isn’t a permanent solution to getting rid of fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment only provides temporary results, which can last between three to six months. So, you need consecutive treatments to maintain your results.
2. Only women can get Botox
Both men and women age over time, resulting in the formation of wrinkles and fine lines. Luckily, Botox is an effective, non-invasive way to reduce the appearance of these wrinkles. However, men require a higher dosage of Botox because of their strong facial features.
3. Botox leads to loss of facial expressions
This only applies when you ask for a “frozen” look at your Botox salon. This way, the practitioner adjusts the Botox dosage accordingly to achieve the desired look. But, the look isn’t permanent, and with time, your Botox wears off, and your face returns to normal, full-range motion.
Alternatively, if you want a more natural result, your Botox salon uses a regular Botox quantity for a freshened and enhanced appearance.
4. Botox and dermal fillers are the same
While dermal fillers and Botox are both injectable cosmetic treatments, they offer different outcomes. Botox treatments soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and they can be used to drop or lift certain features such as drop a top lip.
On the other hand, dermal fillers build up an area with a loss in volume, e.g., saggy skin under the eyes.
5. Botox treatments are immediate
Botox effects are gradual and subtle, and they can take up to ten days to fully show. This is because Botox works by altering the size/strength of the muscle injected, which takes time. In some cases, you may need two injections for complete muscle relaxation and to see full results.
